Pattern = Something used as a model for making
things.
“The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah,
saying, Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and
there I will cause you to hear my words. Then I
went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he was
working a work on the wheel. And the vessel that he
made in clay was ruined in the hand of the potter,
so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good
the potter to make it. Then the word of Jehovah
came to me, saying, O house of Israel, can I not do
with you as this potter? Says Jehovah. Behold, as
the clay in the potter’s hands, so are you in my
hand, O house of Israel” (Isaiah 64:8).
“But now, O Jehovah, you are our Father; we are the
clay, and you are our former; and we all are the
work of your hand” (Isaiah 55:9).
Have you ever started to cut something out according
to pattern and had to change it a little, the size,
length or even the over-all item? I learned this
with my children. I could never use the same
reasoning with all three of them; they were
different, and I had to have a different pattern for
each one.
God’s perfect pattern for man was one without sin,
but because of our human ways He had to change
things. When God starts to show areas that we need
to change in our life or in our thinking pattern, we
often refuse to accept it because of a number of
reasons. Maybe because we haven’t been taught that
way or the enemy of our soul has kept the deep
things of God hidden behind our past teachings or
other things that he has used to keep us from going
deeper into God’s word.
What does the Word say? It’s not what we have been
told that it says. Sometimes we really have
to seek God for a new perspective on Scripture. We
know God’s Word does not change, but our perception
of it may need to be brought into the light of God’s
Spirit.
Or
do we have the pattern for our life or beliefs all
laid out; and, even when we receive the witness of
God’s Spirit, we still refuse the surrender to a
different pattern?
Yes, we all need to be careful of things in this
last day; but if we have received a witness from God
of something in our spirit, then we may need to pray
about what God is trying to say to us. We all need
to be wise to the tools of the devil and understand
that he will try anything to keep us from going
deeper in God’s word. It is not easy to change our
pattern or allow God to. Often we don’t know where
to start but with God as our director, we can rest
in His love and leave the past and future in His
hands.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are
my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than
your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).
“Help us to be willing and obedient to Your spirit
and help us to yield our lack of understanding to
your great love and leadership. Help us to yield
ourselves completely to you and be willing to be
taught, or re-taught many times. We realize that
You are just waiting for us to be willing. Help us
to see You as You really are and not just from our
human sight or pattern.”
“I
will instruct you and teach you in the way which you
should go; I will counsel you. My eye shall be on
you. Be not like the horse, or like the mule, who
have no understanding, whose mouth must be held in
with bit and bridle, so that they do not come near
you” (Psalm 32:8,9).
“For I know the purposes which I am purposing for
you, says Jehovah; purposes of peace and not of
evil, to give you a future and a hope…” (Jeremiah
29:11).
