Is Christmas “just another holiday”?

Not at all!  Ask the merchants who begin to display their Christmas (now called “Holiday”) merchandise before Halloween.  Many of them rely on the shopping surge of Christmas to build their bank account to cover the slow months.

Drive around and look at all the beautiful decorations your neighbors display from late October until January.  Hours and hours of work and many dollars go into making the neighborhood lovely enough to take a tour and enjoy the lights and sights.

No, Christmas is not “just another holiday.”  Even under its “new” name, Holiday, it is celebrated worldwide.  What is the attraction?  For many it is anticipation of who gives them what and what can they give to equal what they receive.  Children look for Santa’s helpers and leave their wish list.  Grandmother makes the turkey, pumpkin pies and other goodies expecting the family to gather at her place.

It is fitting that we celebrate this day, but may we not forget that it is not just another holiday; it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus, our Savior.  Not necessarily the actual date, but the event as announced to shepherds by angels and a star lead “wise men” from afar to observe the once-for-all-time virgin birth of the One prophesied throughout time.

“…Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 14:7).

No, Christmas is not “just another holiday”; it is a Holy Day!

Was the birth of Jesus “just another baby born”?

A thousand times NO!  There has never been a birth like His, and there never will be another.  As prophesied, a virgin became “with child” as the angel told her:  “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35).

No, Jesus was not “just another baby”; He is the Son of God!  He is not “just another Christ”; He alone is the Savior of mankind.  He is the Way, the Truth, the Life and the only way to Heaven.

Is God the Father of Jesus “just another God in the universe”?  Is He, out of other gods, just the “only God with whom we have to do”?  Is He one among many gods?

No!  He is the eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God; and beside Him there is no other!

“…I am the first, and I am the last: and beside me there is no God” (Isaiah 44:6).

“…before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me” (Isaiah 43:10).

“…I am the LORD; and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:18).

“I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me.  I am the LORD, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:5, 6).

Many other Scriptures are God's declaration of who He is: the Only True God.  All others by any name are imposters and false.

Since there is only one God, and He is the Father of Jesus our Savior, there can be no other Savior.  All “other christs” are self-declared and false.

God Himself declared that Jesus was the Son of God when John baptized Him.

“And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, ‘Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22).

When Jesus said He was the Son of God, He was confirming what the Father had already declared.

No, Our Heavenly Father is not “just another God”; He is Jehovah, the everlasting God; and every human being who ever lived will one day stand before Him and give account of their lives on earth.  There is no other God!  Not before Him!  Not after Him!  Never has been!  Never will be!

Is Jesus just another savior?  Are there other saviors, many paths to God and salvation?

No!  Jesus is the only way.  He said any who tried to get into the Kingdom of God any other way were robbers.

Children get their blood from their father.  Since Jesus is the Son of God, He alone had pure unpolluted blood to offer for the sins of the world.  All mankind are in Adam’s bloodline and none were eligible to offer themselves for our sin.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12).

At creation, God made everything subject to the “seed principal” that brought forth after “their own kind,” so sin was passed on to mankind through Adam’s bloodline (after his own kind).  Then God created His own bloodline in Jesus, pure and sinless.  When we are born again, the spiritual birth is “after its kind” through and by Jesus.

So, Jesus is the only way to overcome the sin that follows us, until we are born again.

“For as by one man’s [Adam] disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one [Jesus] shall many be made righteous” (Romans 5:19).

So, you see, Christmas is not “just another holiday,” our salvation is wrapped up in the lovely package left as a gift to us by a loving Heavenly Father—Jesus Christ our Savior, a gift to everyone who will accept Him!

Merry Christmas!

Celebrate!  Enjoy the season, because Jesus is the reason for it!
